London has world-class boutique hotels, offering the perfect antidote to high-rise sterility and big-brand anonymity.  To help you keep up with the ever-changing scene, we proudly present our monthly round-up of all the latest news from the very best London boutique hotels.

The family-owned Goring Hotel is certainly no stranger to famous guests, so staff were no doubt unfazed by the sight of Baroness Thatcher lunching with friends at the hotel’s restaurant earlier this month.  According to the Daily Mail, the restaurant is her “favourite spot.”  She is in good company too, as Foodepedia.com was recently raving about The Goring’s full English in its article about the best London breakfasts.

One of London’s original boutique hotels, the Halkin, is celebrating its 20th anniversary in September and has no plans of letting the milestone pass unnoticed.  The hotel has lined up a series of special events through September and October, including the temporary conversion of its bar into a ‘culture lounge’ and a specially-created afternoon tea menu.

During September, those with the sea air in their veins and a touch of the boutique in their heart (and €35,000 in their back pocket) can spend a week cruising the Dalmatian Coast aboard the sailing vessel of legendary hotelier and designer Anouska Hempel.  The stylish craft has been entirely remodelled by Anouska herself and comes equipped with 7 crew members, including a chef and butler from the designer’s own London hotel, Blakes.

The Chesterfield Mayfair – a luxury boutique hotel in Mayfair – has something very special to offer tea drinkers and poetry enthusiasts.  At the start of August it held its first ‘Poetea’- a new monthly event featuring tea-related poetry readings by Elizabeth Darcy Jones, author of the poetry collection Distinguished Leaves.  Guests have a chance to enjoy afternoon tea while receiving a private recital from the poet related to the blend they’re drinking.  But places are limited as this also happens to be one of the best-value afternoon teas in London, so you’ll need to book fast!

Over at the Montague on the Gardens Hotel, August was a month for celebrating another great British tradition – the barbecue.  Guests enjoyed the very best of al fresco dining courtesy of the hotel’s outdoor grill on the Wood Deck, which London Hotels Insight described as ‘a secluded haven from the hustle and bustle of London life.’  BBQ season continues until 18th September and has also been reviewed on the Lady in London blog.
