Free WiFi for Travelodge guests…brilliant news!

by Holly on August 26, 2011

Back in late 2009, my colleague Rajul appealed to Travelodge to offer free WiFi – and it seems the powers that be were listening (albeit it took a little time to take action), as the chain has just become the first budget hotel brand in the UK to offer free WiFi to its guests.

It’s been well documented on this blog that guests really rate hotels who offer this free service and it can be perilous not to do so, so this is a shrewd move by Travelodge.  By offering free WiFi in its Bar Cafes across the country Travelodge is showing that it knows what guests want – and it’s doing no harm to the hotel’s ‘value for money’ image either.

Moreover, unlike several expensive London hotels which have their heads buried in the sand, it’s showing that it actually listens to its customers.

It’s also a move that, quite frankly, puts some big name, big dollar hotels to shame.  Some of the capital’s heavyweight hotels currently charge guests astronomical amounts for WiFi – they should definitely take note of budget brand Travelodge’s example!

Roll-out of the service has already started, and ALL Travelodges with a Bar cafe will have free WiFi hubs by September 12th.  The next step Travelodge, if you’re listening, would be to extend free WiFi to guest rooms too.

Undecided between booking Premier Inn and Travelodge?  Do read our head-to-head comparison of the two brands but we think this development swings the value proposition back in favour of Travelodge, particularly if you stay in one of its slightly swankier newer hotels like Travelodge Waterloo.
