Great mid-price London hotels with free WiFi.

London Hotels Insight continues to campaign for free hotel WiFi

This blog’s free WiFi drive has certainly been ruffling a few feathers.

Several hoteliers (as well as their IT suppliers who seem to have a vested interest) are saying that hotel WiFi is too expensive to give away for free – as some comments under the recent “Open Letter to Hoteliers” testify.

While I appreciate that it costs money to supply WiFi (just as it does to provide clean linen and other essentials) I think this argument is weak.

And I’d like to prove my point with a series of two blog posts identifying good “mid-price” and “budget” London hotels with free WiFi respectively.

How is “mid-price” defined?  I’m basing it on a room rate that is usually under £200, sometimes under £150 and occasionally even under £100.

I appreciate that some may consider this expensive – sadly that’s the London hotel market!  Do however note that all the top-rated hotels below do have great special offers if you’re fast and savvy enough to grab them.

This list of “mid-price” free WiFi hotels is a price-qualified version of the “best free WiFi London hotels” list published to kick off our campaign.

Prices were checked using the London Hotels Insight Best Deal Finder which finds the best rate from 30+ booking sites with a single click.

The hotels listed have also been chosen from the upper echelons of TripAdvisor rankings but with the above price filter applied.

My challenge to more expensive “luxury” hotels that charge for WiFi is this: if the hotels below can do it then why can’t you?

City Inn Westminster is an example of a well-priced hotel which puts some of its more expensive competitors to shame by offering free WiFi

  • Base2stay (Kensington): one of this blog’s favourite hotels.  It’s an “aparthotel” providing mini-kitchens, quality amenities and more.  You’ll save plenty by staying there and it’s in a great location.  As an added bonus, it’s also one of London’s most environmentally-conscious hotels.

  • Rubens at the Palace (Victoria).  This is again part of the Red Carnation collection of luxury London hotels and very handy for visiting Buckingham Palace and other royal attractions.  It gets consistent reviews and also offers some outstanding deals.

  • Royal Park Hotel (Bayswater): featured already as a good base for exploring Little Venice, as well as for trying some great restaurants nearby.  Note that this hotel’s free WiFi doesn’t let you download heavy files or watch videos but that’s in line with several of the hotels listed.

The above hotels all offer a great balance of value, comfort and service as well as free WiFi.  They’re all currently in the TripAdvisor top 40, but do check before you book since hotel rankings and amenities can change.

What if you need an even cheaper hotel?  You should still do a price search on the above hotels as special offers can bring the rate significantly lower.

Failing that, our next article in this series will list well-rated cheap London hotels with free WiFi and room rates under (and often well under) £100.

In the meantime, do read the latest on the free WiFi campaign from James Ellis and by following London Hotels Insight on Twitter.
